The Department of Justice has recently enacted regulations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), requiring state and local governments to ensure their digital content is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Effective June 24, 2024, these regulations mandate compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Scope of Compliance:
The regulations apply to a broad range of digital assets, including:
- Websites
- Mobile applications
- Purchased software and tools
- Social media posts
- Documents
Exemptions and Deadlines:
While the regulations are comprehensive, specific exemptions apply to certain types of digital content, such as archived materials and existing social media posts.
Our Commitment:
UMC Digital is firmly committed to meeting these new accessibility standards. We have established a compliance deadline of April 24, 2026, providing us with two years to evaluate our current digital landscape, identify areas of non-compliance, and implement the necessary changes.
